Four Ways to Look Your Best Even When You’re a Total Mess

They say a mother’s work is never done, and unfortunately, they’re usually right. Between all the responsibilities that come with kids, spouse, work, church, extended family and friends, there’s not much time left for primping and pampering. Even though they’re busy and stressed, women don’t want to look the part. “You look really tired today,” is not a compliment – even if that’s exactly how she feels.

You don’t have to let the hustle and bustle of daily life negatively impact your appearance. The old saying, “When you feel good, you look good” is so true. Keep in mind that even when you are busy with all of the events and errands that come with being the woman of the family, you deserve to be at the top of your game. The biggest secret is that it doesn’t have to take hours to get there. Use these tips to help you look your best, even on those days when you’re being pulled in multiple directions at once.

Four Ways to Look Your Best Even When You’re a Total Mess

Create an on-the-go beauty bag.

First, buy a stylish, yet functional cosmetic bag. This is a great time to splurge on something just for you. Keep in mind that the bag shouldn’t be too big and ideally sized so that it should fit inside your purse. But your on-the-go beauty bag should be big enough to hold these must haves:

  • Travel-size tissues, deodorant and mouthwash
  • Mascara, lip gloss and powder
  • One of your favorite Hemp Moisturizers
  • One or two ponytail elastics or hair clips
  • Small brush and comb
  • Moist towelettes
  • Tampons or panty liners

These basic tools will allow you to freshen up in minutes in a public restroom or in the driver’s seat of your vehicle. You’ll feel confident and secure on even the most harrowing day.

Cut down on prep time.

One day, it’s going to happen. You’re going to oversleep and – since everybody in the house relies on mom to get them ready and out the door – the whole day’s routine will start askew. Find ways to cut minutes off your own routine so you can help your husband and kids with their morning tasks. Use dry shampoo to freshen up your hair, apply tinted moisturizer and add some cheek stain to give your face and lips some color. Prepare lunches and even a breakfast casserole the night before. These items will allow you to cut the time your daily morning routine takes in half.

Prepare for the unexpected.

Murphy’s Law holds that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. This is especially true when you’ve got kids. Prepare for the worst by keeping a change of clothing in your car or at your office. It’s wise to keep an extra everything, all the way down to your undies. Stock up on Tide pens, Shout wipes or a similar product for spills that end up on your favorite white blouse. Having a lint roller on hand is a great idea, especially if you have pets at home. You might also consider having a travel-sized bottle of contact lens cleaner and case, if applicable.

Take time out for you.

This is one of the hardest tasks for us to complete. Sometimes it seems we cannot take a breathe with someone or something being in the way. You can however find 30 minutes of me times every single day. Try taking a long hot shower and enjoy a good wash with hemp scrubs, towel dry and then apply your favorite body spray or scented oil. Go to bed an extra half hour earlier than normal and enjoy a TV program, read a book or even journal your emotions out on paper. Once you start this process, stick to it. You will be happy you did!

Eat regularly and drink plenty of water.

When you’re busy, you’ll need to keep your energy up by eating appropriately. Try not to skip meals, but if you must, have apples, protein bars or trail mix handy as snacks. And don’t forget to drink lots of water. You’ll find you’ve got more energy and you feel better altogether if you consumer water instead loading up on of caffeine-laden beverages.

Use these tips to look great even when your sanity is suffering. If you think you look good, you will look good. You’ll will also feel better and be able to handle whatever life throws at you next.
