Walnut and his mom agree that it would be fun if he could go to work with her, and they fantasize about the adventures they could share. While they realize that scenario can’t always happen, Walnut’s mother assures him that he is always on her mind, and together they come up with ways to have a physical presence for each other even when at work or at school.

Working parents know that in spite of time away from home, their children are never far from their hearts and minds. This light-hearted story provides parents an opportunity to reassure children on their importance in busy parents’ lives.

Most parents go though at least a handful of moments when your child does not want to be separated from your side. No matter if it is you heading to work, their first day of school or even just going out to the grocery store. So many emotions fill our child’s mind. Are they perhaps afraid that you may not return or just don’t like the idea of not having your protective nature close by? Either way it is naturally just as hard on the parent as it is for the child. Miss You Like Crazy approaches this issue is an well written and adorably sweet way.

The cover illustration alone brought the attention of my son, Low. As you can see he too is a fond lover of all things written and having a new book was better than any treat he could have been offered. He immediately related to Walnut’s worry of not wanting his mother to leave his side. He sat closer and listened very carefully as I read their tale.

The creative mind of the author as she had the characters toss silly ideas out of what a day spent together would be like was entertaining. It kept Low excited and laughing as we went on. You could feel the love the two shared in the words and in the end, even the reader felt a little more at ease with the fear of separation.

We have read Miss You Like Crazy several times over the last two weeks. I feel it is a wonderful story to help prepare him for this coming August when Low begins classes for the first time. Being a work at home mom has allowed him to be with me continuously and this will be a new adventure for him. I can only hope he takes a lesson from this and remembers that while we will both miss each other greatly, we will be back together soon.
