Mini Milestones: Celebrating Your First Pet

Does your family celebrate mini milestones?  If not, then you should begin looking at these smaller, but still significant milestones in life as a chance to join together with your family for a mini celebration.  One of the most memorable mini milestones we have celebrated is our kids very first pet.  It is such a big choice, responsibility and of course a great way to bond as a family.  We love how we can enjoy mini milestones like this with Netflix.

As part of the Netflix Stream Team, we have been given some great ideas on how to celebrate a mini milestone as a family.  Adopting a first pet is a big deal, and definitely worth celebrating together in style.  For a fun mini milestone celebration, we would stream a great movie like the classic Beethoven to watch with the kids.  This movie shows all about how a new pet can change your world.  There are trials, struggles, fun times, memories made, but mot of all the unconditional love of that dog.  Gathering the kids together for a fun night in watching this movie as you prepare to adopt your first pet is a great way to help them with the transition too.

Create your perfect movie night by popping popcorn, setting up sleeping bags and pillows in the living room floor, and making sure to have fun and tasty treats to snack on.  One of the best treats to have for a night celebrating the mini milestone of having your first pet dog adopted, is to make Puppy Chow Treats.  This fun cereal based snack mix is super easy to make and goes perfectly with the theme.

Puppy Chow:

  • 9 Cups Rice Chex
  • ½ Cup Peanut Butter
  • 1 Cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1 ½ Cups Powdered Sugar

Melt chocolate chips and peanut butter together.  Pour over rice cereal and coat well.  Shake powdered sugar over mixture and blend until well coated.  If too wet, add more powdered sugar until able to pick up and eat easily without chocolate and peanut butter mix melting.

You can also go even farther by taking some memorable pictures of your kids with their new pet to save and put into a fun scrapbook!  Grab a box and add in things like a copy of those pictures, the adoption papers and even your puppies paw print stamped onto a card for safe keeping.  Store that away as a special memento box to keep and look at years down the road.

Remember to celebrate all of your mini milestones with great movies and TV shows streamed with your Netflix subscription!
