Real Fashion for Real Women! Karen Kane apparel review & giveaway

One of the most respected names in women’s apparel today, Karen Kane has become truly synonymous with style, comfort, and sophistication. That distinction comes from the brand’s namesake and chief designer.

After growing up in the small town of Santa Barbara, Karen moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of becoming a fashion designer. She enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and graduated two years later with a degree in fashion. After meeting her husband Lonnie, the pair launched Karen Kane out of their garage in Studio City. With little more than a dream to work off of, they shipped their first collection in December 1979. By the time they were ready to begin production on their next collection, they realized that they would need more space to keep up with demand. Moving to a new space in Downtown LA, Karen and Lonnie continued to do all of their own sewing and manufacturing before finally finding contractors who could support their growing business.

What the momma thinks….

Looks can be decieving but of course it would help if I would take more time to read that shop by photos. When I first saw the long sleeve drape cowl from the Karen Kane Fall 2011 collection. I was loved the overall look, classy enough to wear to the office while still casual enough to wear out on a night on the town. Then it arrived and I was shocked that it was a polyester blend top and not a sweater. I will say that I was disappointed by the fabric selection but it was clearly my mistake as it states in the description (seen above) what it is created from. Now what does a woman like me do? Work with what she is given.

After I got over what I imagined and look at what I had, the wheels in my mind started moving and opinions began to form. First of all even though it wasn’t a sweater the appearance was very close to just that. The pattern closely resembles that of a classic sweater without adding the weight of one.

The drape style neckline is flattering and falls just where it should. I adore the long length in the back that covers the bum and hips. This gives me the ability to wear this piece with everything from black slacks, a skirt and even leggings. Most important of all is that the long sleeve drape cowl is as comfortable as it is beautiful to wear.

Overall I am impressed with the quality of Karen Kane garments and have my eye on a few more pieces for my after holiday splurge! It is difficult to find a designer of this magnitude that creates pieces for women of all shapes and sizes. Karen Kane’s womens clothing has made a repeat customer out of me.
