Items You Might Not Realize You Can or Cannot Pack for the Plane

While packing for your holiday, you want to make sure you are not leaving something out which you are permitted to take with you, but at the same time you do not want to be including items which could get you into trouble.

To help guide you through the dos and don’ts of packing for the plane, here are some items you might not have realized you can feel happy to pack and others that will definitely need to stay at home and don’t forget about the cost of chartering a private jet before even packing.

You might have thought sharp items on a plane were a big no-no but, provided they are safely tucked away in your checked luggage, you are permitted to take items such as scissors, razor blades, knives and even darts – just in case you were considering practicing your bullseye while you are away. Just don’t try to take them into the cabin.

Certain flammable liquids which could pose a threat to the aircraft’s safety are not permitted so if you were considering packing any form or liquid of solid fuel, lighter fluid or paints, you are going to need to leave them behind.

If you enjoy vaping, you will be pleased to learn that your vape or e-cigarette and associated accessories are permitted on a flight – with a few caveats and provided they go into your hand luggage.

Your e-liquids and refills must not exceed the maximum volume of 100ml, but you are allowed up to 20 batteries on board, so make sure you stock up at a vape online store before you go.

It might not even occur to you to check, but party poppers are in fact a restricted item.

While it might not be high on most people’s packing list, if you are flying somewhere to celebrate a birthday or anniversary for example, you might consider throwing a box or two into your suitcase.

So, if that is you, you are going to need to think again and come up with some other way to make the party go with a bang.

Most travelers will be aware of the no liquids exceeding 100ml rule, which also includes creams, gels and pastes too.

However, there is some confusion around this so, for clarity, while you are not permitted to take in excess of 100ml in hand luggage, you can take as much liquid as you like in checked luggage. So, if you are the sort of person who needs a large quantity of shampoo, conditioner, lotions or hair styling products, put them into your checked luggage and you are good to go.

It is pretty obvious that carrying firearms is restricted, but did you know even a toy or replica gun, whether it is made of metal or plastic, could still land you in trouble. So even if it is your kid’s favorite toy, you are going to need to leave that particular plaything safely back at home and do not buy any such souvenirs.

If you need regular meds then you can feel better in the knowledge you are permitted to fly carrying prescription medication. To keep things above board, keep a copy of your prescription to prove they are for your use, only take about as much as you are going to need for the duration of your stay and make sure you carry it in hand luggage in case your checked luggage gets lost.
