Life On Earth
With her handcrafted fern pots, artist Shelly Cubarney creates a lasting impression of natural beauty. She throws each one by hand on her pottery wheel using the highest quality porcelain clay, and presses into its surface a fern from the woods near her Pennsylvania studio. The inside of the pot is glazed with a rich, deep hue, while the outside is hand sanded for a raw texture, and stained an earthy brown.

And these handsome jars not only hold water, they play a part in preserving it as well. The distinctive outer coloring is derived from iron and manganese oxide which has been extracted from polluted mine runoff and recycled into a 100% safe ceramic glaze. It’s part of an ongoing effort that is bringing new vibrant life to the region’s waterways and to your decor as well. Larger blue vase (on left) and smaller green vase (on right) sold separately. Handmade in Zelienople, Pennsylvania.

What the Momma thinks…..

Back in February of this year, my husband did something out of character and brought home a dozen roses for my birthday. Now he hasn’t bought me flowers in years and I mean years. While the fact of the giftless life doesn’t bother me at all (as it works for us), this special treat made me realize I did not even own a vase. Seriously not a vase one in my entire household. So my stunning set of pink roses ended up being displayed in a water pitcher. At that very moment, I made a mental note to buy myself a vase and soon.

Time pasted and I nearly forgot my pledge to purchase a flower vase for the next rare floral occasion. Then a light bulb went off in my head as I was shopping for Mother’s Day gifts at Uncommongoods. I types vase in the search box and immediately was drawn into the natural personality of the Fern Vase. It was just what I needed to fit my very own style and decor in my home. Natural look with gorgeous leaf etching bracing the side of this piece. Even without flowers this makes an nice eye catching item for my china cabinet. I am very happy with my selection and can’t wait to buy myself a bouquet for Mother’s Day this year. Maybe I will even spring for a few of cool necklaces seen here as well.

Buy It: Purchase the large blue Fern Vase from http://www.uncommongoods.com for $48.
