Do You Feel Older Than You Are? Let's Change That!

Surely you have had this feeling cross your mind at some point this year, if not this week. It’s so easy for your body to feel like it’s giving up on you. And when you feel like your body is giving up on you, you start to feel like you’re older than you actually are. Your back aches, your feet hurt, you’re tired more than you are awake. It’s a constant cycle that we find ourselves living through. We might have the odd ray of sunshine of a day where you feel like you’re on top of the world. But you’ll be lucky enough if this does last even a day. The truth is, our bodies are not cut out for the life we’re living at the minute. From bad posture, to a bad sleeping routine, if you take a hard look in the mirror, you know you’ll be guilty of treating your body badly. But if you’re treating your body the way you are, and feeling the way you are at the minute, how do you think you’re going to feel in the next few years, or even when you actually are old? Now is the time to start thinking about all of the positive changes you can make to your body and to your lifestyle, so you finally start to feel your age for once. Keep on reading to see what needs to be done.

What You Put Into Your Body

What you put into your body is going to have a big effect on how old you feel. Food and hydration controls us more than many people care to realize. Hydration is one that’s often ignored more than food is. It’s so common for people, especially those working in offices, to live off tea and coffee during the day. Anything like this that contains caffeine is going to dehydrate you, whilst you might think you’re getting in a little bit of hydration. Plus, often it will only be one or two cups that are consumed, which is not enough at all. So, if you wonder why you’re falling asleep in the afternoon, and your skin feels dry and tired, well here is you answer. The recommended amount is around two liters of water a day. However, some articles will fluctuate this depending on your age, height and weight. But a good rule of thumb to follow is to consume two liters a day, we promise that it will make all the difference to how you’re feeling. As for your diet, you should think about cutting down on snacks and alcohol. It’s common for people to eat a more balanced diet nowadays, because nutrition advice is so well put across, and there are some tasty meals to be made. However snacks and alcohol are often people’s downfalls, and both are slightly addictive. So, where possible, we would definitely recommend only doing so at the weekend, and cutting out anything that isn’t clean in the week!

How Your Job Is Affecting You

If your job isn’t draining the life out of you at this very moment, then we think you’re super lucky. Most of the time, we come home and complain about the work we’re doing every single day. Not only is it making us feel older mentally, but it’s most likely playing havoc with your body. Sitting down at a desk all day is not going to do any favors for your posture, so we’d recommend getting a posture corrector. It’s a little piece of equipment that you use twice a day, and it helps to keep your back straight and your shoulders back. Office work turns us into slouchers, which then gives us that horrible back ache, which then leaves us moaning about how old we feel.

Bodily Changes You Didn’t Account For

There are some changes that happen to our body that we just can’t account for. We know all the usual signs of aging are going to come along eventually, but it’s the unexpected changes that come along and make us feel rather rubbish. Damage to your teeth is one of them. We usually associate changes to our teeth with getting old. One day they will no doubt start to fall out, and god forbid when that day does come. However, there is work that you can do now to prevent damage to your teeth, that should delay anything negative happening to them. Gum disease is one of the most common problems with our teeth and mouth, that if not treated properly, will lead to them falling out. To protect them, regular brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash specifically designed for gum disease will help. Being mindful of what you’re eating and drinking is also going to help. If your diet is high in sugar, you will eventually pay the price as you get older. Luckily however, so many foods and drinks are now sugar free, because not only is it going to be damaging to your teeth, but to the rest of your body too.

Let Your Body Feel Younger

If you constantly feel like your body is old before its time, then finding ways to get that youthful spark back is so important. One way we think you can do so, is push yourself to get out of your routine. If you’re someone who finds themselves out and about and doing something all of the time, then this might not apply to you. But if you know you’re the type to come home and do nothing all night, and do the same on the weekend, then you’ve got no spark in your life to keep you young. So, over the next few weeks, find a way to keep yourself doing something different. From a trip to the cinema, to a meal out with a few drinks, there are plenty of ways to breathe energy into your life that you might not have tried before. Plus, the more you’re doing, the more memories you’re creating to look back on!

  2. Great suggestions. I have been getting stuck in the same routines and I know that it is time to change things up a little. I am planning on making big changes in the New Year. I’d like to travel more.

  3. I really need to work on my water intake and my posture. I’ll have to look into getting a posture corrector. It sounds very helpful!
