Blueberries have been a part of US culture from the early days. Native Americans used them to treat coughs and other illnesses, pioneers used them to dye clothes and even paint their shelters. Even early American poet Robert Frost loved blueberries so much that he wrote a poem aptly named “Blueberries”:

Blueberries
By Robert Frost
1874-1963“You ought to have seen what I saw on my way
To the village, through Mortenson’s pasture to-day:
Blueberries as big as the end of your thumb,
Real sky-blue, and heavy, and ready to drum
In the cavernous pail of the first one to come!”

If you live in Minnesota you can claim the blueberry muffin as your official state muffin and residents of New Jersey claim the berry as their official state fruit.
