Boost Your Day With Coromega

I was absolutely excited to try the Be Bright from Coromega because let’s be honest we don’t all have time to get all that we need to stay healthy. As you can see in the picture from the label it is a blend of chia, coconut, avocado, hemp and black cumin superfood oils. Let me tell you that I found it super tasty and I didn’t mind taking down the couple spoonfuls a day. I felt amazing after just a few days of adding this to my diet regimen. I also received the Coromega geared towards children. They did not like it directly from the spoon, so I had to come up with another fun way for them to get the nutrients without them knowing it was there. My six year old and two year old drink orange juice every morning, so what better way to slip it than with something else orange flavored?

coromega group

They had no idea that it was even there and I am one satisfied mama knowing that they are getting everything they need to get through their day. Life is hectic around here, so getting vitamins and nutrients with healthy foods is not always an option. The DHA that is found in this squeeze for the kids is essential to their growth. The DHA formula helps support their brain, eye and overall growth. You want your kids to have good health, so this is a simple way to make sure that they get what they need.

These squeezable packs are so easy, and even though the packaging states for children over 4 my two year old’s doctor told me that if I gave her half of the squeezable pack I was fine. Music to my ears. There are four great ways that your child can enjoy this squeeze. Put it over their ice cream, into a drink, put in yogurt or simply just squeeze from the packet. You can keep that they are getting this extra boost a secret by adding it to things that they already like. After I decided to put it in the orange juice, they get it every single day. DHA is so important and I highly recommend this for anyone that has little ones. It’s an easy bump to their health.

coromega squeeze

I have only tried the Be Bright straight from the spoon, but you can definitely add this to your favorite smoothie for another way to enjoy getting that daily boost that you need. One pouch is enough for 30 servings, so it will last you a whole month. I loved that it is Gluten free and Dairy Free so anyone with allergies can use it without being worried. Coromega also has some yummy smoothie recipes that you can check out on their website if you don’t know where to start.

There are many benefits of using the Be Bright Non-GMO Superfood Oil.

  • Omega-3, 6 and 9
  • Powerful antioxidants
  • Vitamins and minerals
  • Metabolism boost
  • Increased energy and vitality
  • Natural detoxifier

The taste of it will leave you speechless because you would think it to be more oily but it tastes like a yummy drink all in itself. Drink up to a brighter and more boosted you!

HOT FLASHES: two of the most uncomfortable words in the English language

HOT FLASHES: two of the most uncomfortable words in the English language for women. Once you have experienced a hot flash, you will know exactly why they are so uncomfortable.

I can remember that I used to watch my Mom have hot flashes when I was younger. You could tell by watching her that they were miserable and I dreaded reaching that stage of life – menopause. I thought it was just something that was associated with old age and menopause and couldn’t not have been more wrong!

I started experiencing the dreaded hot flash when I was in my late twenties. Completely unaware that hot flashes were affecting young women, I blew it off.  Of course, I had no clue exactly what was going on at first. I just felt moments of sudden, intense heat, my heart would race, my face and neck would flush bright red, and the sweat would start pouring. It was awkward and embarrassing. People nearby would ask if I was ok or if I was in a hurry.

All I wanted to do was disappear for a few minutes to get away from the embarrassment – preferably, disappear to somewhere cold! It was all I could do to quickly peel off my jacket, push up my sleeves, pull my hair back, and find something to fan myself. Each hot flash episode usually lasted a few minutes.

In the beginning, I only experienced them every now and then. But eventually, they increased in frequency and would occur several times a day. Not to mention, there’s more, because what do hot flashes lead to? Night sweats!

Hot flashes are miserable during the day, but it is even worse when you are relaxing in a deep sleep and wake up to find you are over heated and drenched in sweat! Trust me, my hubby is not a happy camper during those moments either. You have to flip the blankets off and get up for some refreshing cold water.

I became desperate for a hot flash treatment and needed to learn how to stop them. After talking with friends about it, I realized that I was not alone in my hot flash misery. Many of us had been suffering silently because we were all unaware that hot flashes affect young women and not just women who are experiencing menopause. After doing a bit of research on what causes hot flashes, I learned that it can be hormonal and linked to estrogen levels, but it can also be related to improper diet, unhealthy stress levels, or triggered by caffeine or environmental conditions.

The good news is that hot flashes can be treated and you can learn to manage your hot flashes when they occur. For more information on a remedy visit this general hot flash page.

Pure Health… Naturally Giveaway

Thank You to Pure Health for providing me with their products free of charge in exchange for my honest review. I received Nature’s Releaf, Nature’s Green and Lean Tea, and Appetite Suppress to base my review.   The Pure Health Natures Releaf supports healthy digestion and regularity*. It contains Senna Leaf, Peppermint Leaf, Hibiscus flower and more. It contains 30 bags and it in a re-usable tin. Each tea bag is slightly sweetened with stevia leaf. it has a great flavor. I have been drinking the tea every night before bed for the past week and I seem to feel better when I awake in the morning. What’s better is that it has 0 calories!

PureHealth 1

Did You Know?

Hibiscus is native to the Pacific islands. It is symbolic of peace, happiness and shoeshines (the leaves are often used to shine shoes)! The red hibiscus is traditionally worn behind the ears of women. If the hibiscus is worn behind her left ear, she is seeking a mate. If worn behind her right ear, she is spoken for. We’re not telling what a flower behind each ear means!

The Pure Health Natures Green and Lean tea has a great flavor as well. I have replaced it with my morning coffee this week. I still have energy and no caffeine headaches with the swap. Green and Lean tea supports weight management* and contains green coffee beans and refreshing spices. It is naturally low in caffeine and it also came 30 bags in a re-usable tin.

Did You Know?

Chinese folklore suggests Emperor Shen Nung, known as the “Divine Healer” back in the BC day, made green tea popular. The emperor was known for boiling his water before drinking it and one day, leaves from a nearby tree blew into his pot of boiling water. The emperor tasted, enjoyed and declared it heaven sent. It became a beverage for the affluent. Emperor Shen Nung was a busy guy  – he is also credited with using seaweed for thyroid health, as you’ll see when you check out Thyroid 5!

Pure Health Appetite Suppress is a healthy appetite suppressionvegetarian pill. It has 800 mg per serving of proprietary formula. It contains apple pectin, glucomannan and saffron extract with no added binders, fillers or excipients. I followed the directions on the bottle and have taken 2 capsules 30 minutes before breakfast and dinner with a 10 oz glass of water.

Did You Know?

Going without proper rest may stimulate a “fake” hunger trigger! Your body may mistake lack of rest for lack of energy and automatically crave nourishment to replenish the “missing” energy.

In the past week using Pure Health 100’s supplement and teas, I have lost a total of 3 pounds. I now have more energy to work in my garden and still complete my household chores. My package also came with a biodegradable planter as an added bonus. I am extremely pleased with Pure Health 100’s products.  Whether you’re looking to lose a few extra pounds for summer or just need an energy boost throughout the day, Pure Health has an all natural product for you!

It didn’t take much to get my kids to take the vitamins. They are gummies so they just associated it with their favorite gummy candies. The vitamins are naturally flavored and colored with fruit and vegetable concentrates . Chemical free! The gummies are also gluten and iron free. My husband has been taking the adult gummies. With his medical conditions, we have to make sure what goes into his body is chemical free. Our transplant team was pleased with Vitacosts’ Gummies when asked what OTC medicines he was taking. The flavor of the gummies are great. Everest Nutritions’ Krill Oil Review

Krill 2

Truth be told, Everest Nutrition Krill Oil is a “must have” in our daily diets as it is filled with vital nutrients the body needs to maintain our overall health and wellbeing.

Omega-3 fatty acids are considered essential fatty acids and are necessary for human health but the body can’ t make them. You have to get them through food. Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in fish, such as salmon, tuna, and halibut, other seafood including algae and krill, some plants, and nut oils. Everest Nutrition’s Krill Oil contains a rich supply of astaxanthin, a red pigment found in aquatic livestock such as krill, shrimp, lobster, mussel, crab and other seafood sources. There are 7 powerful Krill Oil benefits when it comes to your health.

1. Cardiovascular Health: Results from a study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition reported that krill oil can significantly reduce heart-damaging inflammation

2. Cholesterol levels: Findings from a study conducted at McGill University in Montreal indicate that krill oil helps lower (bad) cholesterol levels

3. PMS Symptoms: Results concluded that women taking krill oil used less pain relief medications compared to the fish oil group. Findings also revealed that krill oil significantly reduces dysmenorrhea” and the emotional symptoms of PMS

4. Inflammation: In a study published in the American Journal of Nutrition found that krill oil reduced pain by 28.9%, stiffness by 20.3% and functional impairment by 22.8%. Moreover, results indicated that krill oil “significantly inhibits inflammation and reduces arthritic symptoms within a short treatment period of 7 and 14 days.”

5. Brain Function: A study at the University of California, Berkley showed  a study of 30 adults with attention difficulties showed 46% improvement in mental concentration and 48.9 % mental focus after 90 days of taking krill oil supplements.

6. Anti-Aging: Numerous ORAC tests have proven that krill oil effectively repairs aging cells when compared to other antioxidants.

7. Overall Health:  Numerous studies prove that krill oil’s benefits can improve your overall health by strengthening your immune system, optimizing kidney function, regulating the body’s hormone levels, elevating your mood and emotional wellbeing, balancing blood sugar levels, regulating blood pressure levels, supporting eye health, boosting your energy AND much more!

I replaced Fish oil for the Krill Oil about 2 weeks ago and overall I DO feel better. My blood pressure hasn’t gotten up like it normally would and I seem to have a little more energy lately. I wake up feeling good and motivated! I always like taking a more natural approach versus all of the harsh medications that are on the market today. With many medications, the side effects are worse than the original symptoms so I steer clear from medicines as much as possible. (Note: This is my personal opinion and should not be mistaken for medical advice) The pills are very large so that did take some time for me to get used too.

4 Tasks to Tackle this Summer with the Kids

With summer time fast approaching, parents are trying to come up with things to entertain their children. While everyone wants to have fun, there are serious things that should be taken care of while the children are out of school. Children’s health is on the top of every parent’s priority list. Summertime is the perfect time to get our kids healthy.

4 Tasks to Tackle this Summer with the KidsMEDICAL

Children should have yearly check-ups and physicals. Prevention is always the best medicine and a yearly physical can help catch things that may not be a problem now but could come up in the future. It is a good idea to get children used to having yearly check-ups.

There is no pain like a toothache. Parents hate seeing their child in pain. Many dentists in Billings, MT, recommend a visit to the dentist every summer to go over various preventative measures. A dentist can check for cavities or other issues that need to be addressed in the future, such as the need for braces. Discuss ways to maintain and improve daily dental hygiene.

Many parents don’t realize when children have vision problems. Kids who have a hard time seeing in class tend to have their grades fall due to their inability to see the chalk board or other things the teacher is teaching. Being young and not really understanding what the problem is, or not wanting to be forced to wear glasses may keep school aged children from reporting a problem.

Summertime is the perfect time to have children’s vision checked. If there is a problem with their sight, it can be discovered before it becomes an issue with their schooling. If the child is going to need glasses, summertime gives them some time to get used to the changes before facing school with new glasses.

While getting all the appropriate medical check-ups is very important, teaching your child to eat healthy and get the right amount of exercise can be crucial to their long term health. Right now in America obesity is on the rise, even in children. Teaching children healthy habits is essential to raising adults who know what it takes to stay healthy.

Children’s health and staying on top of it should be a parent’s top priority. Teach your child from a young age that getting regular check-ups should be a part of their routine in life.

Steps to a healthier lifestyle with NewGreens Giveaway

In today’s super busy world, I like many find that my diet is no longer what you could call healthy. While I have never been one to eat an excess of fatty foods, I do however find myself leaving out a necessary food group and often skip meals entirely.

Lately I have noticed that my body is not as productive as it once was. As a mom, I love to blame that on my children keeping me stressed and busy but deep down I realize I only have myself to blame. Thus I made a silent vow to be better to my body by watching my diet, adding daily exercise and increasing my sleep time. This is harder than I could have imagined to achieve  I mean training myself to break the habits that I took years to create is like fighting with a strong willed bull {<- my animal equal}.

One of the additions I made to my diet was NewGreens. Since I am having a hard time balancing my fast paced life with the need to honor the food group, it was a reasonable arrangement.

NewGreens is a dietary supplement that can be enjoyed by anyone who wants to increase their intake of antioxidants and other nutrients that are deficient in their diet. Not only is NewGreens very high in antioxidants but it is also loaded with nutrients that improve gastrointestinal function and detoxification like probiotics, enzymes, fiber and ingredients that are known to support liver function.

NewGreens is an acquired taste. My very first go at this new dietary supplement was by mixing it with water. Needless to say this did not go well for me and I couldn’t help but spit it out in the sink. I bow to those who can drink it this way; you are much stronger than I. Next I tried milk; while better, I still couldn’t get through even half without stopping. Then we experiment with various juices and I found that it went well with both orange juice and V8 {yes, I know that is a veggie drink}. The oj mixed well and added just a tad bit of sweetness. While the V8 was like a match made perfect; the tomato base completed covered up the powdery taste.

NewGreens Review

Even though you have heard my some what unpleasant story of trial and error, I urge you to keep in mind that those who see products like NewGreens are not purchasing them for their taste. The benefits alone are enough reason to find a mixture marriage that is right for you.

Since starting the NewGreens process I have noticed I have more energy  The good kind that is not falsely produced by energy products widely available on the deptment store shelves today. This burst of energy is light, however very much present and lasts all day and with the increase of my daily activity, my mood automatically shifts to a happier place. Another fantastic side effect of the increase movement is the weight loss. While I am seeing 2-3 pounds a week, it is gladly accepted as one more step in the right direction.

Renew Life Ultimate Flora Probiotics Review

Ultimate Flora

Did you know that the latest probiotic research suggests that live-active cultures of these friendly bacteria can help to prevent and treat a wide variety of ailments?

The word “probiotic” is a compound of two Greek words: “pro,” to signify promotion of and “biotic,” which means life. Their very definition is something that affirms life and health. Probiotics can help with a variety of different things including Women’s Health,  Allergies, Immunity and more.

I recently had the opportunity to review ReNew Life’s Ultimate Flora Probiotics.

I chose the Daily Care Probiotic 15 Billion to base my review.

This formula includes 15 billion cultures and 10 strains of health-promoting Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli, carefully chosen for their natural presence in a healthy digestive system. This particular probiotic supplement helps maintain digestive health, restore digestive balance, promote immune health and defend against digestive upsets.

Stomach acid can destroy probiotics. Ultimate Flora delayed-release capsules are designed to resist stomach acid more than standard capsules.

I had never  taken a probiotic until my bottle of Daily Care 15 Billion arrived. A week in to taking it I felt “lighter” and actually felt a little cleaner from the inside out. It’s a feeling somewhat hard to describe, but I take it the probiotic is doing it’s job of regulating my digestive system. I have not had that typical bloated feeling after eating and my insides just feel healthier. As a Mom of 4 that’s extremely important. I also notice that I have not had near the heartburn that I would typically have pre pro-biotic. That allows me to not have to restrict as many foods. Major plus!

Another pro of this product is that it does not have to be refrigerated. If you’re going on a road trip, just toss it into your bag with no worries of it ruining.

You can currently purchase Ultimate Flora Probiotics at the following retailers:

Ahold, Albertsons, CVS, Duane Reade, Harmon, Harris Teeter, HEB, Kroger,  Kroger-Peyton’s, Publix, Ralphs, Rite Aid, Shop Rite, SuperValu, Vitamin Shoppe, Wakefern, Walgreens and Wal-Mart

I was definitely pleased with my Ultimate Flora 15 Billion and I will  definitely be a return customer and highly recommend their products to anyone looking for a little digestive relief.

Disclaimer: I received the above mentioned products for review purposes only. My opinions are that of my own and may differ from those of your own.

Supplements & Vitamins, What Do I Really Need?

Did you know that nearly half of all Americans take at least one supplement to improve health? That is a surprising number for someone like myself whom has until this last year not even considered women’s vitamins. As I age and my health deteriorates, I find that I am in a position of need. But how do I know which are the right ones?

“Supplements can provide a base, an insurance of sorts, in case you don’t get certain nutrients that day,” says David Heber, MD, director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition and author of What Color Is Your Diet?

Since I am a busy mom, I find myself not getting the proper meal diet each day. I often skip breakfast and even lunch when I am overwhelmed with work, chores and tending to my families’ needs. Leaving me with the lack of necessary vitamins and minerals my body needs to get through life.

Then what about Omega-3s I hear so much praise about? My daughter says I need them to make sure I remember all the things she wants to dearly and my husband would argue that they are brain food and that is all that needs to be known.

Since I have been prone to leg and ankle injuries in the last year, does this mean I may need to seek a calcium supplement as well? After all from birth it is what is required for strong bones. Another tidbit: women are five times more likely than men to develop osteoporosis. That makes me want to huge the next cow I see. [Read more…]

Kids and Healthy Food: How To Get Them To Eat

Kids can be picky eaters at times and many of them refuse to eat healthy, nutritious food. This makes it difficult for parents to maintain their children’s health. As children require proper nourishment, getting them to eat healthy food can be tricky. Here are a few examples of healthy food for your kids, as well as some tips to encourage them to eat properly.

Healthy food for kids

Children are at the crucial point when they need proper nutrition for their growth and development. It might be difficult for parents to arrange for food that provides their kids with proper nutrition. The food they eat should help them in the development of their body, brains, muscles, bones and the rest of their body. Vitamins, fatty acid, minerals, iron and lean protein are their daily nourishment needs.

This nourishment can be provided by food items like blueberries, avocado, broccoli, peanut butter, sweet potato, etc. Blueberries contain antioxidants that can prevent cancer and several other diseases. You can serve them to your kids as snacks or desserts.

Avocado has many mono-unsaturated fats, which is very good for growth. It can be prepared in many ways; it would be best to consult a recipe book or cook book to learn ways to prepare it for your kids. Broccoli is one of the healthiest vegetables available, but kids often “hate” eating it. It contains minerals and vitamins that help prevent cell damage and improve vision. You can serve it to your kids by mixing it with their favourite meals.

Encouraging your kids to eat healthy food

Fruits, vegetables, milk, etc. provide essential nourishment for kids, so even if they don’t like eating them, you can find a way to encourage them. You can make smoothies out of fruits, plain yoghurt, and home-made juice. This way, your kids will have the kind of food they like and get healthy at the same time. You can also cook up a healthy dish, name it something fun, and serve it to your kids. Many kids find food with funny names more tempting and edible.

When you’re serving vegetables to your kids, you can serve it with a tasty and fun dip. This  enhances the flavour and your kid still gets nourishment. Serve them some innovative home-made juice. Kids are always open for new and fun things, so create a healthy juice from a fruit they had picked out for themselves. It would be like an experiment and your kids would love to try it out.

When you’re preparing food for your kids, let them help out. Being a part of something makes kids more interested and excited. If you’re worried about the mess, you can always let them pick out the vegetables and fruits they’d want to try. Let your kids come up with a recipe of their own from healthy ingredients that you’ve chosen; even if it doesn’t taste too good, they will still love it. Be as enthusiastic as they are about healthy food; you can set a good example for your kids and encourage them to eat healthy.

Mom, I’m Hungry! 7 Healthy Snacks to Pack When Traveling With Children

Ah, the open road. So full of possibility. So full of adventure. So full of…whining.

Yes, whether you’re exploring the wonders of the Grand Canyon or trying to quell a mid-Disney temper-tantrum, the joys and the perils of traveling with children abound. But, alas, seeing as how most of the biggest meltdowns revolve around fatigue or food, not all hope is lost.

Just swapping that packet of dyed powdered sugar (looking at you, Pixie sticks) for an apple can go a long way towards calming food-induced fits. Here are our top 7 healthy snacks to pack when traveling with children.

7. Whole Grains

Whether it’s whole grain pretzels, seeded, whole grain bread, or no sugar added whole grain cereal, whole grains generally come pre-packaged so they’re easy to grab, and they won’t send your child’s insulin-levels spinning.

6. Cheese

You’ll find individually-wrapped single cheese servings in most groceries and even some convenience store these days. Go for low-fat cheeses if this is a regular snack, but if you have a choice, choose the middle fat option rather than the lowest, as less fat means more salt. Pair with whole grain crackers to make the treat stretch further.

5. Oatmeal Snack Cakes

If you get the chance to bake before hitting the road, these oatmeal snack cakes are just the right amount of sweet and heart healthy whole grains. Plus you can cut them into fun shapes, which ups their chance of consumption.

Pro Tip: swap the white and brown sugar for palm sugar, which registers lower on the glycemic index.

4. Peanut butter

If you can stand the potential mess in the back seat, peanut butter is an easy to pack source of protein. Slather on apples or crackers to sneak in more fiber.

3. Yogurt

You know those commercials where a kid turns to the camera and proclaims, “Mom, this is good!” and mom just smiles and says, “And it’s good for her, too”? Yogurt is that kind of treat. Kids will love the variety of flavors, and they won’t even know they’re being stocked full of vitamins and calcium.

2. Smoothies

While you probably can’t pack a smoothie, you can find them in most convenience stores in large or single serving form. Check the label carefully to ensure yours is more fruit and yogurt than added sugar.

1. Trail Mix

With nuts for proteins, dried fruit for vitamins and just a little sweet, whole grain cereal, banana chips, and perhaps even a few chocolate chips sprinkled in as a treat, trail mix is the ultimate healthy snack.

With these snacks along for the ride, you’ll have minimal whining and maximum enjoyment. And, hey, you might just have some great leftovers to nibble on, too.

Diet For Children: A Year of Age until Adolescence

Up until 12 months of age the dietary needs of a child are rather different to those required after this age. In fact, after a child reaches one year of age, whole milk may replace formula feeding.  Children under the age of one year should not be given whole milk as it has been shown that this can cause low blood cell counts. However, it may be given in small quantities via foods such as cheeses (including cottage cheese) and yogurt.

A one year old child should receive most of its nourishment from meat, fruit and vegetables, breads and cereals, and dairy group, especially whole milk.

Children under the age of 2 years do not require low-fat milk (2%, 1%, or skim); in fact at this age they need the extra calories from fat to ensure growth and development.

A good variety of foods will help to ensure enough vitamins and minerals. Children of this age do not grow as quickly as in the past, so their nutritional needs may be proportionately reduced. Infants and children usually eat only small amounts at a time, but eat frequently (4-6 times) throughout the day, so the use of snacks is strongly encouraged.

Food Intolerances in Infants

Just like adults, so too can children develop food intolerances. Food allergies affect the immune system and symptoms such as heaving and sweating follow. Whilst DNA testing can help determine the body’s ability to process certain foods, this type of genetic analysis is not recommended for infants. You can however, rely on the fact that around 90% of allergies are caused by foods such as eggs, peanuts, tree nuts or fish. This should help you easily locate the culprit and eliminate it from the child’s diet. If you child does appear to be having an allergic reaction, call emergency immediately, even if the allergy does not appear severe. Many allergies are in fact nothing to worry about and will be dealt with by the child’s immune system, you however, want to ensure you have the right medical care at hand should the reaction be a bit more severe.

Diets for Older children

During childhood and adolescence, it is important that the diet includes a variety of foods for proper development. After two years, it is recommended that the diet has a moderately low content of fat, as diets high in fat can contribute to heart disease, obesity and other health problems later in life. A diet that contains a variety of foods from each of the basic food groups (breads and cereals, meat, fruit and vegetables and milk) will help prevent nutritional deficiencies. In areas where water is not fluoridated, fluoride supplementation is recommended.

General Considerations

Feeding tips:

It is not recommended to start too early with solid nutrition. Introduce only one new food at a time. Check for allergic reactions (hives, vomiting, diarrhea). If your child does not like the new food, give it a try again later. Avoid bringing honey in a newborn, as it may contain spores that cause botulism and the. immune system of a baby is not developed enough to fight this disease.

Safety Tips

The containers of foods of the child opened must be sealed and stored in a refrigerator for no more than two days.

• Use a small spoon to feed the baby.

• Avoid foods that may cause choking – popcorn, nuts, potato chips, whole corn, berries, grapes, hot dogs, raw vegetables, raisins, dry cereal flakes.

Other suggestions

  • You can give water between feedings.
  • It ‘not recommended feeding sweets or sugary drinks, because they ruin the appetite and contribute to tooth decay.
  • Avoid salt, sugar and strong spices.
  • Avoid products with caffeine (soda, coffee, tea, chocolate).
