The Best of Disney World at Night

Some of your best Disney World moments can happen at night, when most of the crowds have left for the day and the lights turn on. Disney World at night is an entirely different place. Just as fun, slightly more magical and plenty of new things to see and do. Whether you are headed there with the entire family or a solo trip for a night or two, there are some really incredible Disney moments that shouldn’t be missed.

The Best of Disney World at Night

These are some of the best Disney World moments that can only be had at night, but are great for all ages.

Epcot and Magic Kingdom Firework Shows

The firework shows are the highlight of a night spent at either of these parks, lighting up the night sky each and every night of the year for guests. The shows happen at different times of the night, so there is the possibility of catching them both in the same night if you want to. Wishes, the firework show at Magic Kingdom, is a great story telling, wish making event that leaves everyone feeling good about their time in the parks. The Illuminations show at Epcot is more about pyrotechnics and skilled lighting that can only be accomplished with the ideas of Disney’s famed Imagineers.

Magic Kingdom Firework Show

Evening Boat Rides

There are so many boat options all over Disney World at night, some of them are free and others are paid excursions that need to be arranged well in advance. No matter which one you go with, at night when the parks are lit up, they are all magical and special. If you want to experience the fireworks shows in a new way, arrange for a private firework cruise that can be arranged for a couple or a small group. Ferryboats traverse the lakes and lagoons all over Disney, working as a form of transportation to help guests get from one park to another, and often offer one of the best views of each park and resort at night.

Disney Boat Rides

Cirque Du Soleil

Cirque du Soleil is known around the world for their incredible performances, and the resident show at Disney World is one of the best. The show is held in Downtown Disney and requires an additional admission ticket, but it is worth the splurge to see the incredible acrobatics and pageantry. There are only evening shows, two per night, and they make a great pre- or post- dinner date option. Children love the skilled artists and adults are always left in awe over the amazing skills of each performer.

Hot Air Balloon Flights

Hot air balloon flights taken at night are a huge thrill, and an entirely new way of seeing a place that you are familiar with. At Disney World guests have the chance to take flight in a tethered hot air balloon ride from Downtown Disney that has you soaring high enough that you get a great view of the parks. Time your flight just right and you can catch one of the evening shows from the air, or just take in the evening light show that all the rides and attractions create.

Best Ways To Navigate Disney Parks On Your First Trip

If you have finally made the plunge to take your family on a Disney vacation, you are probably trying to figure out what to do first once you arrive.  Having spent a lot of time in Disney parks over the years,  I have some great tips on the Best Ways To Navigate Disney Parks On Your First Trip.  Not only will you get a better idea of what you wish to see, it will take some of the pressure off of you.  Your visit to Disney should be memorable for the great things you experience, not the stress of trying to figure everything out on your own.

Best Ways To Navigate Disney Parks On Your First Trip

Get The Map In Advance:  You can order a park map for Disneyland and DisneyWorld on their websites.  This map will help you be able to look at all the rides, restaurants, vendors and entertainment around the park.  You can plan what your must see places are, the things you’d like to see and of course the ones you may have no interest in.  Let’s face it, as wonderful as Disney is, if you don’t have little girls in tow, the Princess Palace or tea party may not be on your list of things to see.  This helps you know the lay of the land before you visit the park.

Ride The Train or Monorail First:  When visiting, the first thing you should do is get on the train or monorail that goes around the entire park.  This helps you get a better feel for the “lay of the land”.  While the park maps will help a lot, you’ll also be able to gauge how long between different parts of the park if you are going to use the transportation to help some.  This can be really important when traveling with kids.  The parks are large, and using the train systems will give everyone a bit of a break from walking.  Taking this ride first will help you to not only navigate easier, but know how long it might take to get from one point to another later in the day (helpful if you are using FastPass for rides or restaurants).

Arrive As Early As Possible & Go To The Back First:   Depending on time of year you are visiting the park will be busy as soon as the gates open.  That doesn’t mean you don’t want to get there early.  Instead, it means you want to get there early and go toward the back of the park first.  As you walk into the gates you’ll see the rides in the closest “lands” are occupied first.  Go against the grain and head to the back of the park and work your way forward as the day goes by.  This gives you a chance to enjoy a few of the rides without the longer lines you’ll find at the front of the park.

Skip The Parade & Fireworks:  Yes, these are some of the most popular events at Disney, but they are also some of the most crowded and difficult to handle with children.  Another benefit to skipping these, is that if you head away from the main street area where they are, you’ll find a lot of the rides that had longer lines earlier in the day with very small wait time.  A secret tip for Disneyland visitors is to head toward the the It’s A Small World ride right before the fireworks show. Not only do you have an amazing view, you’ll have virtually no line to go and enjoy one of the oldest and best rides in the park.

These best ways to navigate Disney parks on your first trip are just a hint of the great ways to make your visit better.  Disney is truly magical, and it can be the ultimate vacation for singles, couples or families.  The most important factors to remember are planning and if possible taking at least 2-3 days to spend in the park.  Trying to see everything in one day will only end up with exhaustion and frustration.  Enjoy the joy of the kids, characters and park in general as you plan your first visit!

Disney – Princesses For Me, Jedi For Them + $500 Disney Gift Card Giveaway

Disney really does have everything together for kids, don’t they?  It’s not just fairy tales and princesses anymore.  They’ve been joined by 3D animation with Pixar, superheroes with Marvel, and the Star Wars universe.  That makes the geek mom in me very happy, but I still love the classics.

Disney Atrium

Beauty and the Beast inspired Atrium Lobby on Disney Dream | Image courtesy of Bhaskar Peddhapati

I was a bookworm growing up, so I was all about Beauty and the Beast.  Belle was a brunette bookworm with long hair.  Perfect for me!  I wore out a VHS as a kid watching it and rewinding to sing along with the songs again.

I only have sons, no daughters to share that yellow dress dress-up time with, but that didn’t stop me from watching the movie with them and singing “Tale as old as tiiiime!  Song as old as rhyyyyyyme!” loud enough for the neighbors to hear.  There’s something magical about Disney movies.  They stick with you forever.

I wonder if little girls now will someday be singing “Let It Go” to their children the way we sing Disney classics to our children?

We are planning a trip to Disney in a few years, once the youngest is tall enough for more rides, and we’re all excited.  I can’t wait to see the classics-inspired areas and Disney Downtown.  Because shopping.  My sons are looking forward to learning to use the force at the Disney Jedi Academy.  I’m just hoping I can trust them to “use the force” rather than just kicking Darth Vader in the shins.  Because Boys.

Tell me, what’s your favorite part of Disney?

One winner will receive a $500 Disney Gift Card.

Giveaway ends October 14th at 11:59pm, open to US, ages 18+. Only one entrant per household, per address. Winner is subject to eligibility verification. Enter using the giveaway form below. Good luck!

Disney Classics CD Box Set Giveaway

Disney Classics CD BoxFrom The Studio’s earliest days, music has always been an integral part of the Disney creative process. But when ‘Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf’ debuted in 1933, it began a musical legacy that remains unmatched to this day. Disney Classics Box Set is a music collection that represents this legacy.

Timeless Classics
Collected here are some of the most iconic melodies from Disney’s golden era. From ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ to ‘A Spoonful of Sugar’ and ‘Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah’ to ‘The Whistle Stop,’ these Timeless Classics are part of a musical heritage inextricably woven into our human culture heirlooms passed down through the generations.

Modern Classics
This compilation begins with 1989’s The Little Mermaid, which not only ignited the renaissance of Disney Animation and storytelling, but a rebirth of Disney Music as well. Favorites from ‘Under the Sea,’ ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘A Whole New World,’ these Modern Classics continue to shape the company’s musical history and heritage.

Television Classics
Spanning from the 1950s to present day, this album represents quite an eclectic compilation of themes. At the very least, it’s an interesting musical graph of changing tastes and social evolution over the last 60+ years. Everything from ‘The Ballad of Davy Crockett,’ to ‘Get’cha Head in the Game’ from High School Musical, is represented on this album, but probably the most beloved of these Television Classics however, has to be the ‘Mickey Mouse Club Alma Mater.’

Theme Park Classics
Music plays a vital role in the Parks as well; whether it be cleverly establishing an attraction’s story or the sheer brilliance of underscoring the banks and turns of a thrilling roller coaster. Collected here are not only those Theme Park Classics we know and love today, but others we fondly remember from days gone by.
